2007-08 Men's & Women's Track & Field All-Independent Team
PROVO, UT -
NJIT track and field teams competed at the 2008 National Athletic Conference Tournament held at BYU's Clarence F. Robison Track this weekend.
Teams represented at the 2008 National Athletic Conference were: Houston Baptist, Utah Valley, Cal State-Bakersfield and San Francisco.
On the women's side -- Utah Valley placed first with 322 points, San Francisco finished in second place with a total of 82 points; Houston Baptist took third place with 73; Cal State-Bakersfield ended in fourth place with 56 while NJIT picked up 26 points.
For the men -- Utah Valley recorded 186 points followed by a second place finish from Houston Baptist with 120 points; Cal State-Bakersfield finished in third place with 114; San Francisco took fourth place with 81; and NJIT finished in fifth with 65 points.
Senior Denaya Hemingway earned eight points for the Highlanders picking up a second place finish in the women's shot put with a throw of 36'1, recording a personal-best. In the hammerthrow and discus throw she set two new school-records; hammerthrow a distance of 81'3 and in the discus throw she threw a distance of 94'8 on her first attempt out of four throws.
Rookie distance runner Amanda Hefferan added a fourth place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase at 12:37.20.
The women's 4x400 relay which placed fifth set a school-record with a time of 4:19.97. The team consisted of Lesley Hendricks, Katherine Joseph, Nicole Kerrison and Hefferan.
Junior Steve Schreyer picked up six points for the men clearing the height of 12'9 in the pole volt while senior Matt Magnifico added six points with a school-record jump of 39'5 in the triple jump.
Jamil Wilkins set a personal-best in the triple jump with a jump of 36'5, earning four points for the Highlanders. Wilkins set the school-record in the 400 IM hurrldes with a time of 57.96. For the day Wilkins compiled 12 individual points and picked up two points in the 4x100 relay with a school-record finish of 44.90. The 4x100 relay team consisted of Chadwick Munroe, Page, Wilkins and Akitunde Oyawusi.
Oyawusi ran a 11.37 in the 100 meter dash setting a new school-record.
Jeffrey Page placed in the top seven in the 200 meter dash setting a new personal-best with a time of 23:43. Page took a fourth place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.96.
NJIT returns to action at the ECAC/IC4A on Friday, May 16 in Princeton, NJ.
